How does Thai massage improve breathing?

Thai massage fosters deep breathing that balances your nervous system, allowing your body to function better.

Traditional Thai massage is essential in training the body to relax and help improve breathing. Respiratory issues, such as allergies, sinus problems, asthma and bronchitis, are one group of conditions that can benefit from massage therapy.

The breath, via receptors in our respiratory system, allows the muscles and fascia to relax, change the structure, and release old congestion. Regardless of the cause or quality of the pain, limitation, or numbing, your breath can penetrate and reconnect with any disconnected body area. You can breathe out old patterns, trauma, stress, and emotions hiding in your tissues. Without the assistance of the breath, our tissues are more likely to resist the effects of manual therapy. When we increase our breath capacity and awareness, we can progressively explore our bodies and bring light (and oxygen!) into the dark, forgotten body parts.

Thai massage can encourage you to slow and deep breathing that fills your belly, which balances your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, allowing your body to function better, stronger and faster.
